Crazy Dream - Tom Misch (feat. Loyle Carner)
Tom Misch
Tom Misch, 19, is an extremely talented composer, singer, guitarist, violinist, producer and DJ. Misch mainly channels in to jazz, soul, world music hip hop and folk when creating his music. Misch is a personal favourite artist of mine as he meets the perfect mix between musicality and beats, unlike the house and grime that are all electronically produced. Here you can take a look at some of his music on Soundcloud :

Misch is not well known as he only recently became involved with the professional music scene, however he is already gaining acclaim at the age of 19. He does not yet have a Wikipedia page but he does have his own website which you can have a look at :
http://www.tommisch.com/
Through the website you can also see the social medias he is using to promote himself. These include : Soundcloud, iTunes, Spotify, Instagram, Youtube, Facebook, Amazon, Band Camp and Twitter. Through this we can see that Misch is heavily involved in the use of social media to promote himself. Personally, I found most of Misch's music through Soundcloud and Youtube.
Misch has recently come out with his first video featuring Loyle Carner:

The video has only been around for roughly 6 weeks and already has nearly 200,000 views. As well as this, he also release his first EP called Reverie which is doing successfully as well both in sales and publicity.
My music video idea :
I have chosen to have the performers as a two part band, like Daft Punk. For the time being their band name will be Mr & Mr. As for the singer's image, I want to keep it similar to Justin Timberlake's in the late 90s. For example, I want the artist to appear as though he has already gained success through his cool and cheeky demeanour as well as maintaining a sex appeal.
I want the rapper to be similar to Will Smith. I want him to perform effortlessly but having a certain swagger and groove.
The music video will have both elements of performance and narrative. The title 'crazy dream' implies the surrealism of the song. I felt this could be emphasised through steering in and out of reality (represented through narrative and performance).
The narrative would be following the singer waking up from bed, however in a surreal environment, and getting ready. I want the set to be naturalistic (set would include a bedroom, bathroom and dressing room) but to be made non naturalistic through elements like lighting.
The performance would follow the rapper. The singer would open up the bathroom cupboard where the camera would follow into the cupboard to reveal the rapper and performance space. The set would be like a light box with lots of different colours (like Rock Your Body by Justin Timberlake). At the back there would be a door that opens when the singer comes through to join performance element.
The video fits in with the track as it is correlating with the description of a 'crazy dream.' It also upholds the star image of the duo as it illustrates the coolness of the two artists as well as their sex appeal.
To explore further how to convey my band's image, I attempted to create a basic example of a homepage for their website. When creating this homepage, I took into account that I wanted to uphold their image as cool, attractive yet professional. This was what I came up with:
I chose to include a black and white photo as I thought it gave the duo a sharp and professional look as well as trendy. The use of pink attracts a female audience, maintaining the idea of upholding their sex appeal, as well as gives the impression that the duo's music is upbeat which is what I wanted to convey.
I then attempted to make a Digipak cover for the artist and their album MixTape. I wanted to keep to the exact same themes as before to try and see how I could maintain a certain look on several different media formats. This was what I came up with :
I kept the same colour scheme to maintain the same themes as before. I also wanted to keep it as simplistic as possible so that the audience focused on the name of the artist and the name of the album as a promotion tactic. I had the only image as a microphone to try and give the impression the duo are organic as well as that they are talented.
