Hey, I’m Eloise Roitman, I’m 16 years old and live in London. Despite living in London, I come from America, Uruguay and England which is often viewed as a strange mix. I mainly grew up in London, however prior to this I lived in Los Angeles and at the age of 13 my family and I moved to Portugal as a result of my father’s occupation. I loved living abroad as it meant I experienced new cultures and cities which was always intriguing as I love to travel and explore.
My passions include acting, dancing, sport and watching films. My favourite directors include Quintin Tarantino, Alfred Hitchcock, Baz Lurhman, Nancy Meyers and Martin Scorcese. All these directors have a very individual style which is why I appreciate their work the most. My favourite films include Django Unchained, The Great Gatsby, American Beauty, To Catch a Thief, Somethings Gotta Give and Atonement. This is because each film evoked some form of emotion whether it be sadness or happiness. My favourite genre of film tends to be thrillers as I find them them the most riveting, however I also love a good drama.
The school I went to prior to Hurtwood House was called Harrodian. It was a coeducational day school in Barnes which was often praised for its media and drama reputation; similar to Hurtwood. Growing up in a media orientated school allowed me to be constantly surrounded by film and TV which luckily has always been a passion of mine anyway. My grandparents also used to work in old Hollywood with actresses like Audrey Hepburn and Ingrid bergman and directors like Darryl Zanuck at 20th century fox. Hearing about the creative side of the film industry made me want to follow in the same footsteps as my grandparents. I’ve been making home films since I was little and have always loved doing so. I would always drag my friends to my house to make them star in my latest horror film and we would spend all night making scripts and filming until we passed out. I moved to Hurtwood due to the opportunities that it provides and because I know I want to go into film, however I need guidance in what exactly it is I want to do, and I feel Hurtwood will do that for me. I have been exploring my possibilities by having work experience in film academies where I could learn how to direct and be around people I don’t know and having to work with them as a group. I have worked on photoshoots where I have helped with lighting which helped me to understand the importance of lighting when either shooting a scene or taking a picture. It also taught me how to use photography cameras. I hope in the future to take all the information I have accumulated over the years, including the information that is to come from Hurtwood, and pursue my hopeful career in the film industry.
